For the Fiscal Year Ending June 30, 2024

Thank you for your interest in Narragansett Number One Foundation (the "Foundation"). The Foundation is a Maine nonprofit corporation established by Patricia and Erwin Wales on September 7, 2001, thirteen days after winning the Powerball. Patricia and Erwin formed the Foundation to share their good fortune with others and to encourage other possible donors to help their community and state.

As stated in its Articles of Incorporation and By-laws, the Foundation was organized and will be operated exclusively to further "religious, charitable, scientific, literary or educational purposes," to "foster national or international amateur sports competition" and "for the prevention of cruelty to children or animals."

This statement reviews the grant-making guidelines for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024. Please note that the goals of your proposed project are of greatest importance to the Foundation in making a determination as to which organization should receive a grant.

TIMETABLE

Applications should be received by NNOF no earlier than November 1, 2023, and no later than April 1, 2024.

The Application should be submitted to the Foundation at:

Grants will be awarded on or before June 30, 2024.

An organization receiving a grant will be expected to agree to the requirements of the grant no later than June 1, 2024 or the date specified by the Foundation. Failure to meet this date will jeopardize your grant request.

An organization receiving a grant will be required to provide reports on its financial status and the status of its funded project. Such organization may also be subject to evaluations, audits, and site visits by the Foundation. Organizations that fail to comply with post-grant reporting, audit, or inspection requirements of the Foundation will not be considered for future grants.

 

WHO MAY APPLY

Nonprofit organizations that have received a determination letter from the Internal Revenue Service recognizing tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Any state, possession of the United States, or political subdivision (a public school, town, city, or government agency) if the proposed grant is to be used exclusively for public purposes.

 

THE FOUNDATION PROVIDES FUNDS FOR:

1. Start-up expenses

2. New or special projects

3. Projects

4. General operating support

 

 

THE FOUNDATION DOES NOT PROVIDE FUNDS FOR:

1. Individuals

2. Campaigns to elect candidates to public office

3. Lobbying or propaganda campaigns

4. Programs or projects that discriminate

GRANTMAKING PRIORITY AREAS

Although the Foundation accepts grant applications from any qualified organization, it is expected that over the next three to five years, the Foundation will make the majority of grants to public charities in the Town of Buxton, Maine and the surrounding areas including schools, fire departments, police departments, libraries, parks, recreational facilities, churches, religious groups, shelters for children, the homeless and abused persons, museums and shelters for animals. Once the immediate needs of this geographic area in southern Maine are addressed, it is likely that future grants will be made to charities throughout Maine and in other states.

 

HOW TO APPLY

Complete an Application for Grant and mail it to:

1. If a nonprofit, a copy of the most recent IRS 501(c)(3) ruling for your organization (determination letter).
    

2. If you are a government agency or public school, a letter from the administrative head of your agency or school district indicating a willingness to accept funds for your project.

2. Annual Budget for your Organization

3. Detailed description of the proposed project

4. Detailed description of the objectives of the project

5. Need in Community

6. Description of ways in which the project's success may be measured

7. Budget for the Proposed Project
